I am a Canadian who has lived in London for over thirty-five years. After completing two degrees in Canada and a diploma from the Royal Society of Arts in London, I began working for Christie’s in 1990. I worked in the Early European Sculpture Department for over thirty years, and was International Head of the department for over twenty.
During my career at Christie’s, I oversaw the research and cataloguing of numerous individual works of art, including items from single owner sales such as the Collections of Barons Nathaniel and Albert de Rothschild (1999) and Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge (2009). I was also responsible for identifying and attributing the ‘Mantuan Roundel’ (sold at Christie’s London 11 December 2003, now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York) and the bronze Bacchant by Adriaen de Vries, which was purchased by the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, and still holds the record for the most expensive work of art ever sold at auction in this field.
In addition to auction records I was responsible for numerous significant private sales to both private individuals and institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, Munich.
